Much maligned and much beloved, the Roseland continues to be a relevant, if fair-weather, New York rock venue nine decades after it was founded to showcase the biggest names in Big Band jazz. As many as 2,500 ticketholders can pile into the general admission hall and fight for a place near the large stage, though on the wrong night even a moderate crowd can make the space feel cavernous and even a bit decrepit.
