Established in 1914, The India House is a private club founded by business men who wanted a meeting place to discuss their interests in foreign trade. From the heart of the financial district, the India House offers its membership an air of old world elegance and maritime mystery, not to mention a killer Dover sole. Lower Manhattan once swarmed with private clubs, but today, the 9/11 attacks and changing neighborhood demographics have shut many such doors. The India House is one of the few that remains, responding to the changing times by, instead, opening the doors of its historic Blue Bar to the public. It houses an impressive collection of maritime art, private restaurants, event spaces, and charm to spare.
