Irish Hunger Memorial
The Irish Hunger memorial is two blocks south of Ground Zero. It is a block square installation on two levels, containing stones from all the counties of Ireland. A veritable half-acre of Ireland, the memorial remembers the potato famine of the 1840's that drove hundreds of thousands of Irish immigrants to New York. As you walk through the memorial, you will hear audio of people’s remembrances. The Irish Hunger Memorial epitomizes lower Manhattan. Entrenched within this revamped neighborhood, the memorial is a link to the past.
