Chez Josephine![]()
Chez JosephineNamed after the late great star of the stage and screen Josephine Baker, Chez Josephine is one of the most oldest and most prominent restaurants on theater row. Over twenty years ago, Jean-Claude Baker, one of Josephine Baker’s thirteen adopted children, decided to open a restaurant to honor his mother. Even though Jean-Claude was an actor and knew nothing about cooking, he decided to take a risk to try and recreate the ethereal Parisian scene of the roaring 20’s. Josephine Baker was the toast of the town in Paris in the 20’s and 30’s, capturing audiences with her dazzling song and dance routines. Just as Josephine Baker captivated Paris many years ago, Jean-Claude Baker seeks to bring a bit of the old Parisian life to the New York City theater district. Chez Josephine features frequent entertainment in the form of piano concerts and singing. Occasionally, Jean-Claude himself tickles the ivories.![]() Chez Josephine, Si Vous Plait
I'm a big fan of Chez Josephine because it's faithful to the things that once made these types of places great. And it also reminds me of Josephine Baker and her Rainbow Tribe.
