Trump Park Avenue
The building that is now known as Trump Park Avenue has existed in many different incarnations. Initially, the building was constructed as the Viceroy Hotel in 1928, at the height of the roaring 20’s. The architectural firm Goldner & Goldner designed the elegant three-story limestone bas and brown brick façade. On October 1, 1929, a few weeks before the infamous “Black Tuesday” when the stock market crashed, the renowned restaurant Delmonico’s moved into a space in the first floor of the building. After that, the building was known as the Delmonico Hotel. In 1975, developer William Zeckendorf Jr. purchased the building, which was in a dire financial situation at the time, and converted the units to rental apartments and brought in Christie’s Auction House as the anchor tenant. In 2003, megadeveloper Donald J. Trump purchased the building and undertook a massive $100 million campaign to turn the apartments into luxury condominiums. Trump re-branded the building as Trump Park Avenue and added the excessively arrogant tag line: “the most luxurious condominium.” The condos better be nice when they are going for $30 million a pop.
On their second trip to New York, the Beatles were introduced to a New York based folk singer named Bob Dylan. Dylan introduced the fab four to marijuana, a drug that would affect their music for years to come.
