90 Church Street
This limestone Art Deco monolith resides just north of the World Trade Center site. The building houses offices of the federal government and a US post office. The exterior of the edifice was badly damaged in the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. The building became condemned and all tenants were forced to move out. After many battles between the federal government and various insurance companies over damage compensation, the building finally received the proper funds necessary to rebuild. Years after the attacks, the federal offices at 90 Church Street opened for business again.
The Manhattan Project created two of the most devastating weapons that the world has ever seen and ushered in a new age in warfare. Research for the development of these bombs started at a small office in the federal building at 90 Church Street.
