New York Police Headquarters
The headquarters for the boys in blue is one of the most interesting examples of 70’s brutalist architecture at work. The building was built in 1973 to house the main offices for the New York Police Department. The address of the building, One Police Plaza, was made moderately famous in a 1986 movie about the NYPD entitled, One Police Plaza. Although the film depicts New York’s finest at work, the scenes were actually shot in Canada.
Only in New York would the city government preserve a two hundred year old window. The Sugar House Window rests in a free-standing brick wall symbolizing the pain of the American prisoners of war during the American Revolution.
