Get 86’d
If you really want to feel like a piece of early 20th century history, get 86’d from the place that invented the term. Getting 86’d from a place is not very difficult. All you have to do is become belligerently drunk and start acting unruly. Then, the bartender will cut you off and potentially throw you out as well. According to Modern Drunkard Magazine, “If you are 86’d, do not return for at least three months. To come back sooner makes it appear no other bar wants you.” So, don’t come crawling back to Chumley’s anytime soon. There are plenty of other places that you can terrorize. |

Pamela Court
One of the most fun things to do at Chumley’s is to enter and exit through the “secret” door located on Pamela Court. The door is not so “secret” anymore thanks in part to the multitude of online guides like the one that you are reading. However, you do feel like somewhat of a renegade when you enter through Pamela Court on 58 Barrow Street. New Yorkers just love secrets, and this is one of the ultimate examples. |

The Greenwich Village Literary PubCrawl
Finally, a pub-crawl with some culture! Instead of the typical pub crawl, which probably features ten no name bars and even more vomit on the sidewalks outside of the pubs, this pub crawl both edifies and obliterates its attendees. The actors/tour guides from the Bakerloo Theater Project will take you around to some of the best pubs in the city that were frequented by some of the greatest writers ever to place a quill to a piece of paper. Chumley’s is one of the featured locations on the journey, as the tour guides spout knowledge about famous patrons of this literary stomping ground. The tours are every Saturday and cost $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Reservations in advance are required. Please call (212) 613-5796. |
