Economy Candy is a wonderland for the young and the young-at-heart, not as magical as the Wonka factory, but nearly as comprehensive. A penny-candy emporium where children of the Lower East Side have flocked since 1937, Economy Candy is now a wholesale distributor of dried fruits, nuts, as well as a purveyor par excellance of homemade treats and old classics. This is a candy story as it used to, and should still be, giant glass buckets of single, wrapped candies, barrels of goodies explored with metal scoops, dingy lighting and entertaining staff.
