A chic New American serving excellent, affordable grub late into the night, Schiller's Liquor Bar is nevertheless dominated by its trendy decor, a kind of Parisian fantasy of sophisticated urban life, an upscale nightspot set in the immaculate bowels of an idealized metro station. (The walls are white, subway-style tiles, interspersed with surveilling mirrors; the bathrooms, frequently named the best in the city, are stunning masonry monuments). Schiller's is the East side cousin of Meatpacking mainstay Pastis, and the food is predictably good, the crowds predictably beautiful.
