H&H Bagels
Arguments over bagels erupt whenever New Yorkers get tired of talking about pizza, but H&H is the consensus choice as the premier purveyor of the New York communion. You can smell the bagels baking from several blocks away--but don't come in looking for a quick fix. They don't make sandwiches here, they're proud to tell you, just bagels, so don't bother asking for cream cheese (though tubs are available for purchase). Saturday mornings are literally as busy as a bus station to heaven here.
