About Us![]() Travel Goat Announcements
About TravelgoatTravelgoat is the home to the next generation of free city and travel guides, built around a passionate community. Instead of the generic, static, and staid text-based companion, Travelgoat harnesses the power of personal storytelling by publishing location-based short-form audio stories and provides tools that enable users and professionals to share their own tales. Don’t worry: we agree that not everything is perfectly suited for audio – we also have location-based text guides broken down into overviews, things to do, facts and external links. This audio and text content comes from our users (storytellers) and from professional sources such as museums, government organizations, recognized experts and other institutions. Thus, the site provides a forum for members of the Travelgoat community to: • Listen to stories online or download them to an MP3 player to listen to at the location the story is about; • Use the online recording studio to record and share your own stories; • Learn about locations around New York and what your peers think is cool and interesting about them; • Discover interesting things to do, facts, and links for locations, or post your own; • Create a profile to share more about yourself, to promote your contributions to the community, and to share your work and interests outside of the site; and, • Much much more. This is just the beginning. We’re working hard to provide many more features and tools. As a sneak peak, we’re currently testing our Urban Safari tool, which will enable you to piece together audio and text content from the site to create your very own customizable audio walking tours and guides. We can’t wait for you to join the Travelgoat community. ![]() Our Favoriteshttp://www.lonelyplanet.com http://www.letsgo.com/ http://www.gridskipper.com/ http://www.pology.com/ http://www.yellowarrow.com/ http://travel.nytimes.com/Zachary Aarons, CEOZachary Aarons joined Travelgoat in September 2006 as the Company's first employee. Zach is responsible for much of the day-to-day operations of travelgoat, and supervises all content and partnerships. He was an ancient history major in college and loves visiting historical sites around the world. Zach is passionate about traveling to various destinations and is always mapping out itineraries for his friends. He also loves to wander around New York, and has a special fascination with historical plaques that no one else at travelgoat seems to understand. His dream is to become the ubiquitous New York City historian.
Jason Safro, CTOJason Safro is joining Travelgoat with almost a decade of experience developing on the web. From humble beginnings in 1997, Jason worked his way up to become the senior developer for Ultra Logistics, a logistics management service. While there, Jason architected applications which handle over $60 million in freight annually for major corporations including L'Oreal, Anchor Glass, Kraft and K-Mart. At eGlean, Jason worked with early incarnations of AJAX-like functionality while developing an application for Humana Health Insurance. Other projects have given Jason experience in diverse market areas including election management, data mining, web marketing and SEO. His interests include the Open-Source Software (OSS) movement, scuba diving, travel and Thai boxing.
Stuart Schultz, Co-FounderStuart Schultz co-founded Travelgoat in Summer 2004. Why? Because he was traveling across China, couldn't understand a thing people were saying, and wished he could have had a personalized tour guide speaking in his ear. Since, Travelgoat has developed into what Stuart hopes to be a comprehensive text and audio travel companion. New York was Stuart's playground growing up and he's excited to be able to share it with the world. His favorite part of NYC: The disco roller skaters in Central Park. Unfortunately, he's not yet brave enough to leave the spectators and join the roller dancers.
Justin Pattner, Co-FounderJustin Pattner co-founded Travelgoat in Summer 2004. A passionate traveler with an active mind for business, Justin views Travelgoat as an opportunity to create the ideal travel tool and the best way to spend his time. Born and raised in New Jersey, he has spent a great deal of time traveling the world fulfilling his passion for peoples, cultures and systems. For recreation, Justin likes to lurk in the depths of the botanical gardens of the East Village. Amongst other goals, he wants to record the first extreme TravelGoat safari perched on top of Everest.
